Laboratory Automation
Laboratory Automation Research at CU Boulder
Chemistry is a foundational science for many other disciplines. From pharmaceutical drugs to new materials, our world depends on the products of the chemical sciences. Chemistry research is, however, held back by the tedious manual labor required to synthesize new molecules. My PhD dissertation work at the University of Colorado Boulder, under the direction of Prof. Carson J. Bruns, focuses on building hardware and software systems to automate synthetic organic chemistry.
This work is generously supported by VEX Robotics, Inc, for which I am deeply grateful.
Although I've since moved on to building my prototype lab automation robot in metal, constructing the first prototype almost entirely out of LEGO was in many ways the fulfillment of a childhood dream: to design with effectively infinite parts at my disposal.
